About Helm - The vision of Helm has always been to play acoustic music reflective of the traditions of the Middle East through classical, folkloric and original compositions. Our years of playing for dancers both in Tribal and Cabaret styles enables us to provide dancers with arrangements that really work and music for all to enjoy. Helm recently was voted Favorite Musicians of the Year by the readers of Zaghareet! Magazine.
Based in Marin County, California and founded by Ling Shien and Mark Bell, Helm has been able to play and perform with excellent local musicians and dancers. Part of our extended Bay Area musician family include Sean and Lars Tergis, Briana Waters, Eliot Bates, Calvin Lai, Samuel Atchley, Faisal Zedan, and Tobias Roberson. Some of our favorite dancers are FatChanceBellyDance, Mira Betz, Zoe Jakes, Rachel Brice, Elizabeth Strong, Hannah Romanowsky, and Terry del Giorno. We have been able to branch out nationally and internationally in recent years working with, among others, Ali Sinan Erdemsel, Sami abu Shumays, Dimitri Dupont, and Morgana.
Our close association with Carolena Nericcio of FCBD and creator of American Tribal Style dance helps keep us attuned to the world of dance. We also travel abroad frequently to enhance and refine our knowledge and bring this information into the workshops and classes we teach.
