F'il Waha spans the Islamic world with a mix of original compositions and traditional songs, evoking images of the Moroccan Sahara, the Turkish Rom (Gypsies), Upper Egypt and the Bandar region of Persia.
Using only acoustic instruments: mizmar, qanun, nai, zumara, Arabic tabla ( darbuka) and Persian toumbak, Helm creates a deep and intricate texture. Multi-layered Arabic polyrhythms weave throughout, adding their own nuances to the music.
Mastered by Bob Olhsson Audio, Nashville, TN; includes Laurie Eisler on qanun and Abdullah ibn Marak on rebaba.
